** UPDATE 2039PT 19th Oct. 2010**

Alive and well. Power out over large swathes of NE Luzon, communications very difficult too. Areas norther of Ilagan city resemble a tornado hit. Flying to Hong Kong tomorrow to intercept 2nd landfall of Megi.

** UPDATE 1043PT 18th Oct. 2010. **

Landfall expected within next 2 hours. Strong winds and torrential rain hammering Aparri. Expecting total devastation in landfall zone about 50km south of here.

** UPDATE 2048PT 17th Oct. 2010 - Recon finds flight level winds of 192kts in eye wall of Megi, equates to winds of almost 170kts at surface.

Extreme super typhoon Megi is now an incredible category 5 storm as it tracks towards the northern Philippines. Latest aircraft recon found sustained surface winds of 152kts - a seriously powerful and dangerous storm!

I am now in Aparri with Geoff Mackley, Bradley Ambrose and Mark Thomas where we will co-ordinate with the mayor's office and document the landfall of Megi / Juan. Check back here or my Twitter feed @TyphoonFury for more updates...

Typhoon Megi Bombs Out, Now Raging Category 4 Storm and Forecast to Slam Northern Philippines - En Route to Extreme Northern Luzon - 16th October 2010 2100z

Typhoon Megi is well on it's way to becoming the season's first super typhoon as it tracks towards the northern Philippines. Current forecasts from JTWC suggest Megi could reach category 5 status prior to landfall with winds of 145kts gusting to 165kts - a seriously powerful and dangerous storm!

I am now en route to the extreme north of the Philippines to document this storm and its impacts on northern Luzon. Check back here or my Twitter feed @TyphoonFury for more updates...

Typhoon Megi could become the season's first super typhoon as it tracks towards the northern Philippines. Current forecasts from JTWC suggest Megi could reach just below the threshold for category 5 status prior to landfall with winds of 145kts gusting to 175kts - a seriously powerful and dangerous storm!
